My beloved silk vintage shirt lost it's top button. I replaced it with a tiny sliding lock.
I sewed the lock in place with rayon thread, regular cotton thread could fray and break by the sharpness of the metal. Then I squeezed the part where the lock should slide into(see detail picture) so that it becomes more rigid and harder to close. This way when the lock is closed it will stay in place and not open by itself.
