Nura said... How do you search for the perfect partydress/christmasdress? I don't want too Christmas or all black. I want a dress with a twist, not too expensive. Where do you find one?
My online stops for affordable party pieces are Topshop, Asos, Cos,
Nelly and Zara (all EU-based so I don’t have import taxes). Above I’ve put together a few favorites with a twist from Asos, starting at 15 pounds! Excuse the ugly collage, I haven't found a good program for Mac yet ;)
Jayvee Doroteo said... I have a really simple question. How tall are you? :)
An even simpler answer: I’m 1.62! Hence my extensive heel collection.
Mellisaphie said... What's your priority when buying shoes? Will you buy an awesome pair even they're painful? Will you settle for 1 or 2 sizes bigger of the last pair that you've desperate to find?
Ha! You got me! I just bought a pair that's perfect but pinches one of my toes. I've sworn not to buy uncomfortable shoes though - you never wear them so it's a waste of money. Sometimes I prioritize looks over comfort, but I would never go as far as going a whole size up or down. Uncomfortable maybe, but painful is never ok if you ask me :P

How do you live? meaning by yourself, witha friend, in an apartment...?
Glad you like it! For the past 4 years I've been living in an apartment with my twin brother Milan. BUT... he's moving out in 3 weeks! So I'll be taking it over on my own and make a blog office in his room. You'll be updated on this big step, of course!
Michelle Lee said... What kind of music/artists do you listen to? :) I love music inspirations I guess it's b/c I sing. Do you sing too?
Only in the safety of my own home or on my bike, late at night, haha! I like UK artists like Adele, Amy Winehouse, Keane, Coldplay and James Morrison. Other favorite genres are soul or in between pop and R&B, like Gnarls Barkley, Erykah Badu, Leela James Beyonce, John Legend, Moby, John Mayer.Well served
A few things make Self Service fall/winter 2011 pretty damn great. (And mostly I'm just a sucker for the book-magazine hybrid). The way of displaying new season's items, as if they were quickly snapped backstage, and the mix between styled supermodel shoots and streestyle looks makes it the best thing to browse for inspiration on this Saturday evening.
Meet Mr. Macbook
Say hello to my new silver sweetheart... the 15 inch MacBook Pro. If this doesn't help me write one hell of a thesis (and blog posts), I don't know what will. Still haven't recovered the most recent documents from my crashed laptop but I'm trying to forget about that. Sometimes I wonder if new technology actually brings us more or less stress.
Beauty post
After getting so many questions about make-up and skin routines, I’ve put together a big beauty post.
A step by step make-up tutorial is on it’s way, this is a general post.
1) Creating a flawless face. I don’t have a lot of skin issues, but when I’m tired it immediately shows in my have (enter dark circles and pale complexion). So I apply YSL Touche Eclat under my eyes followed by a bit of MAC foundation in NC15 - it's the the lightest color they have. Next up: subtly applying bronzer from my cheeks out and some pink blush on the apples of my cheeks. A little highlighter on the cheekbones can also make you look fresh and fruity.
2) Eyes, eyes, eyes. I just eyeshadow base, black eyeliner for a subtle wing and black eyeshadow along the lash line that I blend with taupe shimmery eyeshadow on the eyelid. More on this in the tutorial – it’s super easy!
3) Creams and skin care
. Having good (looking) skin isn’t always easy, but it can make a huge difference in how you look and feel. Along the years I’ve found out what works best for my dehydrated skin. Secret ingredients are: 8 hour cream by Elizabeth Arden for dry spots and chapped lips, Vichy moisturizer for day and Embryolisse for night. Of course next to cream there are other - more intense - ways of hydrating or rejuvenating your skin that I haven’t really tried out yet but that I’m always interested in, for example with light. There’s a new laser light device that you can test at Douglas at the moment and that you can actually use at home for laser skin care. It’s called the Philips ReAura. How this works is that you just apply a gel, use the laser light to activate new cells (deep inside your skin) and lastly hydrate as you would normally do. It gives a smoother structure and reduces any pigment spots or fine lines on your face. Did you ever try this?
Our book is nominated!
Not really fashion related, but there are some things going on that I simply wanted to share with you! After all, this is also a part of what I do. You might have read that my dad, Wil Michels, and I recently published a book called Focus op fans. It's the first Dutch book about branding and fan strategy and we recently got some amazing news. It's nominated for the Marketing Literature prize of 2011! A big deal in our work field, and we are very proud and honored.
Next to that, we've been giving lectures about the book - Wil also gives creative workshops - and one of them was yesterday. In a room of a 150 people at an SRM guru lecture to be exact. (If you work or study in the communication field; one of the speakers once was 'The purple cow' author Seth Godin now that's a guru!) I shared an insiders' view on blogging, spoke about how brands can approach bloggers, what collaborations usually go like, etcetera. It gives such a rush to be up there, tell your story, hear other's opinions and to meet interesting people. That's some of the best parts about working to me.

This chick's got style completely re-designed!
Clearly it was time to redesign Thischicksgotstyle.com. To give it a more professional look and add a few fun touches. I hadn't been able to find a designer that completely understood my wishes, and then I found the lovely web designer Shay Bocks. I'm so happy with the end result. And that's mostly because she listened to my ideas so carefully and executed them just as I had imagined them. On top of that, she made it happen in the blink of an eye. Thanks Shay!
So tell me what you think! I'm still tweeking a few things. (Most images need to be resized, but I'm stuck at university for the moment!) To me the blogrol makes things a bit crowded, so I might remove/replace it. But I know some of you like it, so let me know how you feel about that...

Home, sweet home
After living in my apartment for four years, still in the same interior I bought when I was 17 or18 and moved to Amsterdam, it's time to change things up. I've collected a bunch of photo's that give off a vibe I want to recreate. These are just a few. By no means am I an interior design expert, but these are just some small pointers of what I'd like to take away from each image ;)
1) Mixing metals with wood gives a modern feel.
2) Use curtains to separate spaces.
3) Store your cutlery in pots and vases, right in sight
4) Hang deep picture frames for open storage (or to stall out favorite items!)

5) Seperate flowers often look more modern than a huge bouquet. I especially like them in glass bottles and love the use of lilac in both pictures.
6) Throw some vintage in there, so not everything is new and shiny. It often gives more character.
7) Decorating doesn't get easier than this. Unfinished business - like these lamps or pictures on the floor - has it's charm.
8) Collect personal photo's, inspiring editorials and special souvenirs on a mood board.

9) Hang a favorite piece of clothing on the wall as art - I do this with my favorite dresses.

When bloggers meet...
This week I met up with blogger babes Chantal and Cindy for a dinner date. As you can tell by our huge grins we had a good time together, catching up while eating pasta, drinking wine and taking hilarious pictures ;)
