Guest post: Tieka

Hi everyone! Tieka here from Selective Potential! I was so excited when Emily asked me to do a guest post for her... especially on music! It's not something I typically post about on my blog, but music is a huge part of our lives. My husband has played in bands ever since he was 14 and I've watched bands ever since I was 14. It's just something we've always loved and something we're both really passionate about!

We also live in a great city that has an amazing punk community. We grew up with the most amazing all-ages venue, where we'd spend every weekend. We are also insanely fortunate to have the best record shop! I can't even count on my hands the amount of venues around here that we grew up going to!

Brett and I started a new band called Circle Maybe with some of our friends last November and it has been so much fun. We are in the process of recording now and have only played a few shows, but this is just the beginning of something truly wonderful. We've met all of our friends through shows and music... Brett and I even met through music! He was a drummer in a band... and I thought he was so cute, so I stalked him... and eventually got him to fall in love with me ;)

I hope you enjoyed my music-inspired post! It's one thing that I really love about Emily - our shared interest of music. We both love the same style of music and can talk about amazing bands like The Get Up Kids together! Hope she enjoyed her little blog-cation!

Guest Post : Morgan and Lua

Hi! I'm Morgan from Morgan and Lua. 

When Emily asked us to guest post, she also asked that our posts be either inspired by a favorite song, or were in some way music related. I knew almost immediately what I would do. I decided to combine two of my favorite things, The Beatles and my dog Lua, in an outfit post.  I based my post around The Beatles song, Two of Us. I tried to give a nod to the laid back hippy style that was happening during the time the song was written. 

I found Lua at WARL, a no kill Shelter outside of DC. I was a volunteer there when Lua was brought in. I had always known I wanted a dog and a few months earlier I had even started to look for my own, but I never expected to fall in love with a puppy at the shelter so quickly.

Over the past three years I've had Lua she has become such a huge part of my life. They always say dogs are a man's best friend and I wouldn't dispute that one bit. Lua is my buddy. She tries her best to please me and I try my best to take care of her. 

We've lived in a few different places together. We started off in DC and wound our way back to New York City. I'm not used to being without her. When we are together we really are inseparable. I take her every place I possibly can. She sleeps next to my bed, comes to work with me everyday, is my running partner in the afternoons, and is by my side each night as we wind down the days. Whether it's beneath my desk at work or wedged between the coffee table and sofa at my apartment Lua can often be found lounging right under my feet.

Our relationship is obviously very different than the one represented in Two of Us. At its core the song is about friendship. Like I said, Lua is my buddy. We've been through a lot together. Moves, health issues, the occasional disagreement, all of it. At the end of the day, we take care of each other. She'll always have my back and I'll always have hers. And for right now, it really is just the two of us.

Guest Post: Jasmine

Hello Daily Fashionista Readers!

I'm the first of the many guest bloggers that Emily has set up for you while she's away on vacation. I'm Jasmine and I run my own style blog over at Transient Withdrawal, but it's fun filling in for Emily for the day. I miss her already, but I do wish her the bestest and most relaxing vacation. When Emily asked us to guest blog for her, she had the fun idea of doing a post inspired by our favorite music. Music is such a huge part of our lives that it's likely to influence how we dress whether we know it or not.

When it comes to music, I'm not all that loyal to a certain genre. As long as it sounds good to my ears, then I don't care if it's country, hip hop, indie, or whatever. I do tend to favor mellow, happy, acoustic songs like those from Colbie Caillat. Her songs are the most played on my iTunes so I figured I'd do a post inspired by her smooth, happy music that got me through some pretty dark days. When I think of sweet Colbie, I automatically imagine her singing at the beach; in a white, eyelet maxi dress with wavy hair and a flower in it. Now since I neither own said white, eyelet maxi dress, nor Colbie's gorgeous locks, I had to make due with what I have. Luckily, the beach is really accessible to me (I'm based in Southern California). I knew I had to wear something white so when I chose this top, the rest of the look just sort of fell in place. Don't you just love when that happens? This isn't too far off from what I normally wear, but thanks Emily for making me realize this good combination sooner rather than later. If I ever get asked to do something like this again, I'll do something more daring and try a look inspired by other favorite artists of mine: Maroon 5, Adele, Sara Bareilles, Backstreet Boys--just to name a few. The last one would probably prove to be most interesting, maybe for Halloween.
